If we follow my past experience, I would choose nulled. Although you may get DMCA take-down requests, you'll be just fine if you follow this tutorial. If you got money to spend, please purchase vBulletin from their site, and if you don't, please read on.
Chapter 3: How do I install vBulletin?

web-page, vBTeam. Their releases are clean and you can always trust them. This guide will only support vBulletin 3, but vBulletin 1, 2 and 4 are basically the same. When you've downloaded the version you want to install, you will need web-hosting. By my own experience in the past, I recommend Change Hosting or Secure Signup When you got hosting, please upload the 'upload' directory of the nulled vBulletin you downloaded (remember to make it a .zip file before you upload it.) When you've uploaded it to the 'Public_html' folder on your FTP, extract it and after the extraction is done, you'll see a folder called 'upload' on your Web-Server. Now, move the files from 'upload' to 'Public_html' or 'Public_html/yourdirectory' (depends on if you want the forum to be your main page, or sub-page.)When you are done with uploading and move the files, please read on. Now, click on the folder called 'includes', refer to 'config.php.new' and change the name of 'config.php.new' to 'config.php'. When you are done with re-naming the configuration file click on it (don't double click) and press 'Edit'. When you are done, a new tab or window should pop-up. Now, create your MySQL database on another tab. When you are done, edit the configuration file to match your database information.

Okay, now when you are done with the installation, we need to secure your vBulletin against exploiters, hackers and Jelsoft. First of all, we need to remove the keygen files and dgt files. So, you need to delete the following files from your FTP.
- file_id.diz
- dgt_released.nfo
- validator.php
- checksums.md5
Now you've protected yourself against Jelsoft, basically. Now, you need to install a vBulletin fire-wall from vBTeam. I won't get into that now, the installation instructions are in the products itself.
Chapter 5: How do I install modifications for vBulletin?
There's nothing much to explain about this. You'll just go to AdminCP -> Plugins & Products and almost all products and plugins have their installation instructions in a text file.
Chapter 6: How do I install templates for vBulletin?
This is simple, you just go to AdminCP -> Styles & Templates -> Upload Styles and almost all skins and templates have their own instruction file in a text file.
Chapter 7: How do I prevent spam on vBulletin?
Spam makes your forums look bad. No one wants spam on their forums. So, how do we prevent it? Simply by going to vBulletin Options -> Spam Management -> Anti-Spam Service and enable Akismet (you need to buy it) or you can install a free one from vBTeam.
