What OS uses the least amount of system resources?

Working with a 1 core shitbox here, I'm seeing what to put on it.

How much RAM do you have?
Which Integrated GPU / Dedicated GPU?
Which CPU do you have?

If you're working with a very small amount of RAM <500MB and you have a GPU that is supported by Linux, I would recommend Puppy Linux as it runs on hardware with very small amounts of RAM and still looks decent and is easy to install:

said...you can look at slax linux. Great option for keeping on a thumb drive. It's now based on debian, and minimum specs are an i686 and 128MB of RAM.

I would say Arch linux, or Linux mint if its 32bit

Try Windows 7. Browsers and antivirus will work with Windows 7.
